Launch of Street 360 brings international street foods to downtown Concord

Concord Monitor

Jay McSharry, whose 14-restaurant empire covers a large portion of the Granite State and a small section in Maine, hopes to routinely hear the shortened version of his new, eclectic restaurant in Concord, which opened for business this week.

Officially, it's called Street 360, located at 76 North Main Street, site of the old New Hampshire Pizza Company. But with time, McSharry hopes, the new addition to Concord's cultural landscape will plant roots, attract a solid fan base and be known as, simply, The Street, by both loyal 'insiders' and newcomers alike.

"PORTSMOUTH — When Patrick Ballentyne started working as a dishwasher at Street almost 10 years ago, it was just a job to him. Like many 18-year-olds, he didn’t know what he wanted to do with his life.

During those 10 years, he worked his way up the ladder in the kitchen, leading him to a solid restaurant industry career. Now, his hard work and talent have taken him a rung higher. The 28-year-old Portsmouth High School graduate has been made an owner of the popular West End casual restaurant with its eclectic menu of international street food dishes.

Co-owners Matt Louis and Jay McSharry heard quite a bit about Ballentyne’s contributions to the restaurant when they purchased Street from founders Josh Lanahan and Michelle Lozuaway two years ago. Louis, who also co-owns The Franklin, Moxy and Luigi’s with McSharry, went over the “who’s who” in both the front and back of the house staff with Lanahan back then, and one name always rose to the top...."

“…cool space, hip, lots of graffiti and the menu covers Asia, Latin American, the Middle East…they make a great bowl of Vietnamese style phở noodle soup, but I recommend the cemita, this is a Mexican style chicken sandwich. It’s packed with fried chicken, avocado, vegetables, a thick slab of fried Mexican cheese all piled into a sesame seed bun…”

“…their version of Mexico’s cemita sandwich substitutes a seafood patty for the standard meat fillings. Pollock fish pulled from local waters is combined with shrimp, scallops, shallots and a mix of spices to make the fried patty. It’s placed on a sesame bun, then topped with a hefty slice of griddled cheese, pickled red onions, cilantro and housemade chipotle mayo. “

“….Yup. Our Gourmet and three dining companions got “appy” at Street Eat/Drink 360 in Portsmouth, ordering eight of its 10 appetizers.….After bringing cocktails (the Sunburnt Margarita was a hit — its reposado tequila set off by mango puree, muddled raspberries, orange liqueur, lime and chili simple syrup), our server in the outdoor dining area marched off to the kitchen and returned with a ridiculous amount of food 15 minutes later….The Thai Ribs, Curry Fries, Korean Tenders, Empanada, Crispy Rice Cake , Dumplings Con Pow!, Fun-sized Subarashii and Gobi 65 arrived at the same time….”
